Strings of sequins

Chapter: Projects   Series: Bookmarks & Cards

Traditional sequins have holes that facilitate stitching onto fabrics. Onto paper they should really be strung together because they become an unexpected interactive feature.

Movable sequins glide along the threads.

The sequins are 0.4mm in diameter and since they are this tiny they didn’t add much bulk on paper.

  1. String up the sequins with doubled-up gold thread. I threaded the thread through a needle which makes it easier to string up the sequins.
  2. Stamp the letters on gold glitter paper and punch each letter with a 0.5″ hole punch.
TIP — Just string a handful of sequins, or else the thread might sag.
  3. Poke a hole on both sides of each circle.
  4. String up the letter circles with a needle and double-up black thread.
  5. Align each string on the card panel. Secure the ends taut with tape behind the panel.
  6. Paste down each circle to keep its position fixed.
  7. Adhere panel on a piece of black cardstock cut slightly larger than the main sequin panel.
  8. Stick down the black panel on a card base which measures 4″ x 7.25″.
