The code on the back of each Daimaru paper bag like the H-2 and H-5 shown above represents a specific paper bag size and design. I know because I had worked in this department store (me and my dad’s favourite!) for a short time during a school break. For sentimental reasons, I kept a few of these as bookmarks.

It’s sad to see stores closed down and won’t come back…but hopefully there’ll be replacements.

Digging back through your archives. I had no idea some of the large French department stores tried their hand at Singapore. Sad they left.
