Handwritten newspaper

[Chapter: Japanese + zakka]

The Ishinomaki Hibi Shimbun, a daily newspaper in Ishinomaki city, Miyagi prefecture, which carried on publishing despite the lost of power and its printing press during the March disaster was awarded a special citation by the International Press Institute on Sunday, 25th September in Taipei.

The efforts by the newspaper to bring the much-needed news to affected residents are commendable. For six days, handwritten daily newspapers were pasted at entrances of relief centres around the city, free of charge of course.

Indeed, the pen and paper shall always be mightier.
