Chapter: 'City rounds'

AED

Something new has recently arrived at one of the largest malls on our island; an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Break glass for the key that unlocks the cabinet door to the defibrillator.

Hub says the glass isn’t difficult to break…one can use shoes or just bare hands, during an emergency.

Precious Moments prepaid gift card

‘Thots of you bring out the best in me’

These are the words below the figurine on this debit-like card. I saw this poster while walking pass a gift shop two days ago.

Not just lovable but Precious Moments little messengers are encouraging and uplifting. Remembering those days when I had a couple of their badges which were simply the sweetest looking among all other badges! And when hub and I were dating right up to those honeymoon years, we love to hand each other Precious Moments Hallmark cards and stationery which come with wonderful reminders like ‘Make a joyful noise’, ‘Count your blessings one by one’, ‘To God be the glory’, ‘Love one another’ and ‘Nothing’s sweeter than a friend’.

I have since lost track of their ever expanding range of merchandise. But I have seen their chopsticks.

Formula 1 was in town

Last night our little island played host to the first ever F1 Grand Prix night race. Race proper started at 8pm.

Hub and I were a short distance away from the street circuit which is in the city/shopping area. We could hear the speeding cars spinning away and sounding very much like aircrafts.

The live telecast was shown on a wide-screen in a nearby mall and that’s where I took the above pictures of Lewis Hamilton and his car. Half the time, I find myself staring at the sponsors’ names displayed prominently on each racer’s car and helmet. No wonder these cars are called the world’s fastest moving billboards.

I thought after last night, we’ll say goodbye to the F1 *night* fever but hub tells me the night race will return again for the next 4 years.

Colnago for Ferrari

This should be a guest post by my husband because I don’t know much about Ferrari and Formula 1 in relation to this bicycle. But since he’s at work, I’ve asked mine little friend to show you a few more bike pics taken at a sports fair during the weekend.

I would love to.

BYOBD

Every Wednesday is Bring Your Own Bag Day, otherwise buy a reusable bag or donate 10 cents to a green charity for every plastic bag taken.

Comex 2008

I really don’t like super crowded places and yet I was there. At the IT fair, during the weekend. If it wasn’t because we were thinking of getting a laptop.

There were all sorts of freebies for every shopper. One even gave free Formula 1 jackets with their notebooks and desktops. Hub bought some blank DVDs and was handed free TDK earphones and 3 ink markers for the DVDs. We think it’s clearance.

Eventually, we decided to continue to wait to buy a laptop though we found Acer’s to be the best in terms of price and configuration. There were also some entertaining highlights for me, like the antibacterial keyboard from Lenovo and the 12.1″ ultra light NEC notebook that weighs a measly 1.25kg with a 6-cell battery!

Open only for a sale

After dinner one evening, we saw the lights of Wihardja brightly lit and so thought we should pop
in for a look. They have such gorgeous teak furniture and home accents which we only get to peek from outside.

You see, though this outlet appears like a retail front they are closed most of the time. We heard before that it’s used more for storage. They supply to local and overseas establishments but for walk-in shoppers like us, their doors are opened only when a sale is on. Like now.

With less than 15 minutes to closing, my sis and I each bought this teak tissue box. Everything is made in Java, Indonesia and prices are really attractive!

Fly our flag

Our little nation just turned 43 on Saturday.

This is a MTV for one of our most favourited National songs. A song that gives me goose bumps.
Please enjoy and share with us our joy!

Bridges for ridges

Today we went for a walk on bridges that connect up ridges! There are 3 bridges linking up 3 ridges but we had time for only 2 bridges.

The first is Forest Walk. Strolling on strips of elevated mesh walkways lift us closer to the tall trees. My wedges were noisy against the metal platform but that wasn’t the reason why we turned back after the second strip and walked to this next bridge.

Being the highest pedestrian bridge on this island, the Henderson Waves Bridge stands 36 meters above the road.

Don’t you just love the decking? It lays the entire bridge.

[If you're wondering about the waves, here they are.]

Smoky curtains

The sound of roaring engines in the sky was clear that we were having company on Saturday evening. Just after hub and I had walked across to Bugis Street, diagonally above us were these F-16Cs…looking teeny weeny. Evidently they were busy practicing for next month’s parade to celebrate our nation’s 43rd birthday.

We were about 2-3km away from the parade venue, much further than we were the other time, if you recall. While we remained on the side of the street and with hub watching out for traffic, I slip out my camera in time to catch them leaving their smoky trails. This zoom-up-and-dive act is called ‘Curtains’, hub pointed out to me.

As I view the curtains on the LCD screen on my F31fd, a true teeny weeny camera, I’m continually blown away by its astonishing point and shoot capability!
