Chopsticks etc

Chopsticks are my preferred utensils, not because I’m a Chinese but because it’s just a preference. I can’t explain the pleasure derived from lifting food with sticks and neither am I able to explain ALL the enthusiasm demonstrated by designers who desire to make chopsticks an absolute pleasure for anyone to use!

Restless chopsticks [浮箸] from Plywood

The chopsticks are rest-less because they don’t have to rest. The tapered design ensures a hygienic distance between the tips and the dining surface. An award-winning creation by Mikiya Kobayashi. Available at Amazon.jp or Concierge (for my sg friends).

The design was inspired by a Toucan’s bill.

The Kitastick linking chopsticks can be linked together to guide those in need. Designed by Jani Martikainen and Risto Talonpoika.

Formula 1 was in town

Last night our little island played host to the first ever F1 Grand Prix night race. Race proper started at 8pm.

Hub and I were a short distance away from the street circuit which is in the city/shopping area. We could hear the speeding cars spinning away and sounding very much like aircrafts.

The live telecast was shown on a wide-screen in a nearby mall and that’s where I took the above pictures of Lewis Hamilton and his car. Half the time, I find myself staring at the sponsors’ names displayed prominently on each racer’s car and helmet. No wonder these cars are called the world’s fastest moving billboards.

I thought after last night, we’ll say goodbye to the F1 *night* fever but hub tells me the night race will return again for the next 4 years.

Pop Up Book and Bon Appetit rugs

Do you like a rug with a sense of humor? Well I do and even more when it looks so cute with a child on it!

The Pop Up Book and Bon Appetit rugs are created by Bob Foundation, a design and art venture started by Mitsunori Asakura and Hiromi Suzuki, both graduates from St. Martin’s College in London.

Each piece costs 26,667 Yen (approx. SGD 355/USD 249).

Fuzzy microfibre cloth

It absorbs stains but won’t stain itself – that was the startling sales message from the salesman. He proved it by washing off sticky engine grease and cheap lipstick. I had enough. SOLD! 2 pieces per box – orange and white. I use the white for floors and orange for tabletops.

Did my own test with another formidable opponent – turmeric. Who do you think won? I had secretly hoped it wouldn’t be turmeric but not a chance, it defeated the white microfbre. But the good news is, the yellowing has now vanished without a trace after repeated use and rinses.

Tree + branches etc [1]

Ah…a tree is strong and so full of life, it offers shade from the sun, is a resting place for many creatures, provides us with wood and isn’t it marvelous also that its inherent structure is an endless source of inspiration for toys, home decor and home improvement ideas?!

Colnago for Ferrari

This should be a guest post by my husband because I don’t know much about Ferrari and Formula 1 in relation to this bicycle. But since he’s at work, I’ve asked mine little friend to show you a few more bike pics taken at a sports fair during the weekend.

I would love to.
